Focusing on the good things

Sunday, 2 October 2016

I think it's important that we sometimes stop what we're doing and think about the good things that happen to us. Just to boost our self-esteem a little bit and see everything in a different light.

I'm extreeeemely guilty of thinking too much and bringing myself down. However, recently I've been trying to pay more attention to all the good things that happen to me instead of the things that go sour even if they seem stupid or not that big of a deal. Believe me, as long as they're something that makes YOU happy, it's totally okay to count them as good things happening in your life. They help to keep the dark thoughts away. So that's what I've done and I want to share some of mine with you:

Autumn. Do I really need to explain this one? It’s getting colder and I can finally start wearing jumpers/bomber jackets in the morning which is just absolutely perfect. Autumn is my birth season and I adore it. Don't @ me but October, November and December are the best months of the year.

Hamilton. You may not have heard of this, but it’s a musical about Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. Now, this is something I didn't think I'd be into but honestly, it’s all I’ve been listening to for the past week and it has made me SO HAPPY. It has also ruined my life a little bit because now I'm obsessed but oh well. I highly recommend it. It may not seem that interesting but I've actually learned some American history thanks to this, so there's that!

Dying my hair. So I finally died my hair purple (only the bottom part) and I was so excited to do it. It turned out blue instead of purple but it still looked kind of okay in the end and I was happy with it for a week. Quite a lot of people complimented it and said it looked good on me so that made me even happier. But now I really want to cut it short, shoulder length/bob, we’ll see!

Tv Shows. A few of the shows I watch are now back (or will be later this month) and I couldn’t be happier. I've missed How To Get Away With Murder so much. If you don’t watch it, DO IT. You won’t regret it. One of the best shows out there at the moment (in my opinion). If you're into the crime-mystery type of shows you'll love it.
Being productive. Uni started and I’ve been busier than ever but somehow I’ve been happier? (Am I Hermione Granger?) I've been doing my homework as soon as I can or on Fridays and Saturdays and it makes me feel so productive and as if I've got my shit together (I really don't). If I do this I have more time to do other things I enjoy!!

New books. If you know me you know I love books. It’s not very often that I get to buy new books but I recently went to an English bookshop and I couldn’t resist buying two. I shouldn’t have bought them because I’m saving for something that’s happening next year BUT I couldn’t help it #bookaholic.

See the sunrise. I get to see the sunrise every single morning on my way to uni which is fab. The sky is purple and pink and it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see. Waking up early and being on packed trains does have its perks apparently.

I 'challenge' you to make a list of things that make YOU happy (can be daily, weekly, monthly, whatever pleases you), you don't even have to post it if you don't want to. But just grab a notebook and write things that make you happy or all the good things that happen to you. I guarantee you that it will make you feel a hundred times better! Plus if some day you feel down you can go back and read the list and tell yourself that you'll get through that rough patch and feel happy again eventually. You got this!

What things have made you happy recently?
